As mentioned a while ago, the Shuswap Environmental Action Society
will be presenting their requests to their Regional District tomorrow
for getting an extension of the current moratorium on Shuswap Lake,
as it is due to expire on November 2007. They have decided to request
the establishment of a Shuswap Basin Board and are asking that people
who support that bring a sign saying so. The presentation is planned
for 11:30 - 11:45. on Marine Drive in Salmon Arm (across the tracks).
As you know, what we have done here instead is put the responsibility
for approving or refusing projects onto our regional district rather
than on another level of government (such as a water basin board).
Some of us feel that a water board may be useful for long term
projects affecting the whole watershed but it remains to be decided
whether we would join a Shuswap Water Board or the Fraser Basin Council.
Russ and I plan on going tomorrow as bodies will help their cause and
we fully support an extension of a moratorium. We have 2 extra seats
available if some of you would like to meet and drive with us.
We'll send you an update later on this week,
Huguette
