Sugar Lake Resort Opposed to Effluent Dumping in BC Waterways

The
shareholders of a company with property on pristine Sugar Lake near
Cherryville have clearly stated their opposition to any development
which would propose dumping treated sewage into BC waters. Sugar Lake
Resort Inc. is the corporate umbrella for a group of
environmentally-minded landowners on the east side of Sugar Lake. At
their annual general meeting, May 26, 2007, shareholders unanimously
passed the following motion:"In recognition of our responsibility as
stewards of the Middle Shuswap waterway, Sugar Lake Resort formally opposes the
dumping of sewage or effluent into any BC waterways, by this company or by any
other organization or individual. Dumping
effluent into our water system is an archaic and unacceptable approach to
sewage treatment."
As property owners on the lake, shareholders are not opposed to
controlled development, but feel it is important to state their
official position on the critical issue of water purity. All shareholders fully
agree with the new bylaws passed by the North Okanagan Regional
District to prohibit the dumping of effluent into water courses
of areas "D" and "E" and congratulate NORD directors for their
exemplary leadership in support of BC's environment.
