Dear Mr. Reiner, 

I am writing to you to express my concerns about the Kokanee Lodge proposal
to discharge effluent into Sugar Lake and the Shuswap River.



It has been suggested that the Ministry of Environment feels existing
"standards" may allow the discharge of effluent in remote BC locations, from
private sewage treatment facilities that cannot be monitored by already
budget-strapped regional authorities.  If so, then I respectfully submit
that your standards have not caught up with the growing environmental
awareness of BC residents.

Although people in this area are generally supportive of well-controlled
development, I can assure you that nobody here supports the dumping of
effluent into any waterway, especially a pristine body of water such as
Sugar Lake.  Politicians who think otherwise should consider themselves out
of touch with their voting public.

I notice that the location of the proposed effluent discharge is a
well-known picnic area and swimming hole frequented by local youth.  These
young people will certainly be motivated to express their own opinion of
this proposal, along with more experienced voters, in the next election.

Anything that you can do to completely ban the discharge of effluent into
waterways of this province would be appreciated.  Please feel free to begin
with Sugar Lake.
