[LookOutSugarLake] After Kokanee Lodge...

Someone is working on First Nation Issues,
because I just got a letter from the Chief...Re:
encroachment on traditional territory without meaningful consultation..

Treat the whole watershed as an integrated entity
- land, groundwater and surface water...any
decisions to impact on one impacts the others
(groundwater and surface water are dynamically
and inextricably linked...they are one
resource)...try integrated watershed management
(GOOGLE those keywords for info) planning and implementation.

Impacts on fish and other aquatic life from
planned effluent discharges into both surface and
ground water...how will the monitoring of the
fish (and human) health be handled long term ?

For the long term - how will water quality
testing and monitoring and enforcement of
drinking water standards and water quality standards for aquatic life...

Check out the Water Suppliers Association of BC's
position about development around upland lakes...they may also be allies.

Try to get detailed on-the-ground mapping done
ie: inventory of what is there now... - for
streams and creeks...try to get sensitive habitat
and inventory mapping (SHIM) accomplished; for
lakes try to get foreshore inventory mapping
(FIM) (similar methodology as SHIM) accomplished
or also for lakes aquatic habitat index (AHI)
accomplished...outputs from these detailed
processes, include: videos and photographs for
reference and planning purposes...so everyone is
singing from the same page of the hymnal.

Encroachment on shorelines is an growing
issue...maintain as much public access as
possible...or you will slowly find no one has any
access - except through a commercial venture...in
the same vein - try to ensure public access for
boat launching for fishing...longer term...limit
speed boats and jet skis...and go for wind and/or
human powered alternatives...or electric motors or minimum horsepower motors...

Riparian vegetation along streams is now under
the new BC Riparian Area Regulations (31MAR06).

Hope that helps.

Rick
