Hi all

Become SENS member?

As you all know, our Kokanee Lodge Effluent Discharge website is on
the SENS Website - Buying a membership is a nice way to ensure we can
continue on having a website. A Yearly membership costs $5 for basic/
sustaining, $15 for single, and $20 for family, can be left or mailed
at the Boys and Girls Club (c/o SENS, 3300 37th Ave, Vernon BC V1T
2Y5) oand includes a monthly newsletter, monthly lectures and
presentations on topics of interest such as water, forestry, OCP,
transport, the 100 mile diet, etc...

The SENS Annual General Meeting is tomorrow, March 22, at 7 pm, at
the Schubert Centre auditorium, and it will start with information on
the Pine Beetles! Forester, Clare Kooistra will briefly discussthe
pine beetle problem and provide information on what we presently know
and what you can do to deal with this problem. The VERY short AGM and
a social with nibblies will follow.

A forum on Our Website:

Russ is working on putting up a Forum (it's actually up but not yet
running) so we can all post messages and look at those that interest
us. More news on this very soon.

Provincial Bills and their ramifications:

It pays to stay vigilant. An email correspondent sent me information
regarding a clause introduced in Bill 11 this week that would allow
the province to override the Regional Districts when it comes to the
approval of resorts. It's only had its first reading so perhaps it
can be prevented - I am trying to get more information and will let
you if and how we could act. I believe it's bill 11, clause 15 and
can be found at
http://www.leg.bc.ca/38th3rd/1st_read/gov11-1.htm

Workshop with MOE:

There will be a workshop with the Ministry of Environment staff on
Shuswap Lake Water Monitoring efforts on March 27th, 9:30 am at the
Sorrento Centre. It is opened to anyone who is interested. The
schedule will include about 4 hours of meeting time with MOE, followed
by a strategy meeting amongst the citizen participants as to the next
steps regarding protecting Shuswap Lake water quality.

Happy Spring!

Huguette
