The Climate Action Club at WL Seaton Secondary is inviting the community to join them with our Fly Your Flag for Climate Action event. Inspired by Budhist prayer flags, club members and others in the school community created small flags that represented their hopes and dreams for the world and their future in it.
This is the second public hearing regarding the rezoning of the property at 5000 20th St., beside the Vernon Heronry. This is coming up again because Councillor Nahal brought new information forward from Scotland Constructors (a new surveyor’s report) which has resulted in a request that Council waive the rezoning application condition that a protective covenant be put on Scotland Constructors' title to protect the herons. Since the original rezoning was granted ON THE CONDITION that a protective covenant be put on Scotland Constructor’s title, the rezoning will now have to be voted on a second time. Whether or not there will be a covenant on title will also be decided. This requires Council to hear from the public again before deciding on the following two things:
The City of Vernon has launched a survey to gather information regarding the Climate Action Plan (CAP) being developed by the city’s Climate Action Advisory Committee (CAAC). The deadline for the survey is July 24th. The online survey can be found at: https://www.engagevernon.ca/climate-action
The City of Vernon is developing a Climate Action Plan that will position the City so that, “In 2050, Vernon is a leader in climate action, with significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions and is resilient to the changing climate”.
