Kelsey Robertson is a workplace lawyer at Ukrainetz Workplace Law Group, a boutique law firm which provides practical advice and solutions for employers in the areas of employment, labour, and human rights.
Kelsey became concerned about climate change after experiencing persistent wildfire smoke. As a mother with two young children (Quinn and Olive), she became concerned about the impacts of wildfire smoke on her children’s health and began looking for advice and information. Since then, Kelsey has become an advocate for clean air, healthy families, and actively promotes the installation of real-time air quality monitors called PurpleAir monitors: As a result of her efforts, an air quality monitor has been installed on East Hill, Silver Star Mountain, and the Lavington Life Society has committed to installing more than 10 air quality monitors in Coldstream.  The monitors provide real-time air quality readings which are available free to the public.
To raise awareness about the impacts of poor air quality on human health, Kelsey is a regular presenter, writes newspaper articles, and has contributed to a three-part series in the Morning Star called Smokanagan:
Kelsey is a Director for the Sustainable Environment Network Society and is a Climate Change Ambassador for the City of Vernon. As part of her ongoing efforts to improve air quality, she is also a Board member on an operational board to bring a hydrogen powered (carbon-free emission) passenger train to the North Okanagan.
Kelsey is passionate about sustainability and presented to the City of Vernon’s Mayor and City Council requesting them to bring a proposal to the UBCM to ban single-use plastic bags. This proposal was accepted and passed by the City of Vernon on May 22, 2019.
You can follow Kelsey on Twitter @_karobertson where she posts regularly about the joys of bicycle commuting around Vernon (she is the proud owner of an electric cargo bike) with her young family.
