Water Stewards

For the past summer the Middle Shuswap River has been the object of water quality testing by three groups of volunteer Water Stewards.

Funding for the tests was provided by the North Okanagan Regional District.

Electronic equipment is provided by Claude Labine, owner of Campbell Scientific Instruments.

At left, a water sample is taken into a bottle.

The three groups cover Cherryville, Lumby, and Shuswap Falls areas, including several creeks feeding the River.

Here at right is an electronic probe which is submerged to provide a read-out of water temperature and pressure, as well as oxygen content in percent and mg/l. Time of day is also recorded.
