Call to Action
Help Make B.C. a Province Without Poverty! Please sign BC Poverty Reduction Coalition’s letter to the party leaders here! Poverty is a policy choice, not a personal one. The B.C. government can make meaningful, tangible change for thousands across the province by investing in a dignified, accessible provincial public transit system; raising social and disability assistance rates to the poverty line; and legislating housing as a human right for everyone in the province.
Stop Deep Sea Mining Before it Starts! The deep sea is a treasure trove of biodiversity and home to untold wonders and possibilities. It is also one of our best allies against climate change. But a threat is coming: deep sea mining. The good news is we can stop this industry before it’s too late. But we don’t have much time. Sign Greenpeace‘s petition here!
Help Save the Amazon Rainforest! The latest research has shown that the Amazon has lost an area about the size of Germany and France combined due to deforestation. Unprecedented drought has left the Amazon basin at an all-time low. Last month, an unnatural flood-ravaged Ecuador’s capital city, Quito, displacing hundreds of thousands of people. This is not the natural state of the Amazon, and if we don’t do something, it will get even worse. Urge the nine Amazonian countries to declare a state of emergency for the Amazon before it's too late. To add your name to the movement, go here!
Worth the watch
Students Benefit from climate-ready schools: It’s Canada’s first one. The pilot project aimed to better serve the unique and evolving needs of the students, community and the local ecosystem. Two years later, Evergreen visited the school to ask parents about the transformed school grounds. To watch a video on this, go here!
Climate tipping points scientists WANT us to hit: Climate tipping points are thresholds we REALLY don't want to hit because of their effect on the entire planet. Not all climate tipping points are negative. Some, we would REALLY like to hit. And scientists have identified the policies that can get us there. To watch this hopeful video, go here!
