S.E.N.S. Events (November)
In October, SENS provided decarbonizing research at 2 different functions:
a) CARE, Oct 19 at the Okanagan Science Centre, in support of Vernon’s Climate Action Plan, and
b) the Allan Brooks Nature Centre’s Appreciation Day, October 28. We hope to have the research, along with a petition related to decarbonizing and BC’s Zero Step Code (energystepcode.ca) on our website within the next week. Look for it soon!
Call to Action
Help create global ocean sanctuaries! Preliminary benefits have been seen in sea turtle populations due to U.S. federal and state ocean protections. If 30% of the ocean could be under similar protections, the benefits to the ecosystems could be massive. Please add your name to the petition by following this link!
Help end B.C. fish farms! The federal government has promised to transition away from open-net fish farms by 2025. The future of wild B.C. salmon depends on this promise. Add your name to a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau and your parliament asking them not to wavier in this commitment. Add your name by following this link!
Celebrate World Paper Free Day (November 4th)! Paper is required less and less in our high-tech world. Despite less need, many offices and homes still use more paper than required. Can you go paper-free on November 4th? For 8 reminders about why World Paper Free Day matters, go here!

Worth the watch
Geothermal is going global! Geothermal energy has the potential to provide all our human energy requirements for millions of years. The trouble is we just can't easily get at it other than in areas of volcanic activity or along fault lines in the earth's tectonic plates. So geothermal energy has always remained a niche energy source - accounting for just 1% of global energy. Now a Canadian company has developed a system that can work profitably anywhere in the world, regardless of geological conditions. This one could be a winner!!
