SENS’ Pollinator Pathways Project: Sheila is starting to distribute our classy Pollinator Garden signs, information packages and more. If you’re interested in creating a Pollinator Garden on your property or even on the boulevard, please check the SENS fb page for details and contact information. When nature wins, we all win.
Swan Lake Nature Reserve Planting Spree: Wednesday, May 1st, starting at 11:00 am for 2 – 3 hours, rain or shine. Bring lunch and drink and come when you can! Join SENS as we support the North Okanagan naturalists. We’ll all plant, tamp down the soil, and water a few hundred small trees, shrubs and flowering plants. Tools and gloves provided. Address is 6255 Old Kamloops Road in Vernon. Drive onto the side road and go past the Stawn’s Honey buildings for about ½ km to the parking lot. The planting area will be in the south end of the park closest to Vernon.
Check out the SENS display at the CARE (Climate Action Ripple Effect) Community Climate Expo: May 27, 4 – 8 pm, Vernon’s Curling Club. The event is youth-driven with musical performances, speakers, youth presentations, project displays, door prizes, snacks and more! Also, provide your input to the City of Vernon’s Official Community Plan (OCP) and Transportation Plan during the event!

Weed Pull Help? Wed. May 8, 9 am – 2 pm at BC Ranchland Agricultural Park off East Vernon Road. Please contact Marnie (mpw660@telus.net 250-545-4743) if you’re able to even provide a short amount of time to help instruct and mentor students from Hillview, BX and Silver Star Elementary Schools. You would be given background to assist them but they do the dig/pull. It will be a fun, interactive experience for the students and always richly awarding for the adults!
Scotch Thistle Rosette Pull. BX- Swan Lake Community Association is planning a Scotch Thistle pull for the public on a Saturday around mid-May. No details yet but check their Facebook page in a week or so? Or…go out with friends/ family and do your own dig/pull (leather gloves!) a) along the grey canal trail on Bella Vista where RDNO spraying was not used or b) elsewhere to improve our eye-candy vistas!
