S.E.N.S. Stuff (February)
Books? DVDs? SENS wishes to support our community via the library’s lending library. If you know of an environmental book or DVD that we should all know about to read or watch which is NOT in our library’s system, let us know (jblissau@telus.net) and we’ll arrange for their purchase and donate so they’re available for everyone!
Vernon Carnival Parade, February 5th: SENS director Terry Dyck still seeks helpers for the Feb 5 parade. Phone 250 545 0191 or terrydyck80@hotmail.com or if you can carry informative banners, walk, or ‘sport’ an electric form of transport in the parade!
SENS Pollinator Path Project: Encourages local citizen initiative and participation in helping link together pollinator friendly areas throughout our communities. Plant your yard, boulevard, alley, flower boxes, patios, rooftops etc with native pollinator friendly species. You will then avoid the use of pesticides and herbicides, provide important food, habitat, nesting and resting areas, and protect pollinators and our local food supply. Check out and/or like the SENS facebook page to get information, resource materials, local inspiration and more!
Call To Action
Hand-write Letters to Express Your Concern: A proposed resort development between New Denver and Kaslo will be a detriment to the local wildlife population. It is expert opinion that “the project will significantly diminish and could eventually wipe out, three provincially blue-listed species” including grizzly bears. Go to Valhalla Wilderness Society to find more information and where to send the letters to express your concern!
Sign up for Winter GOBYBIKE Week (February 7 - 13th): Last year, BOBYBIKE BC society inspired British Columbians to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 418,026 kilograms! Go to www.GOBYBIKE.ca to sign up and log your progress.
Support Nation-wide Public Transport: A bill is going to the house of commons to propose a nation-wide public transport connecting communities. Nation-wide public transport would give Canadians a lower cost, more environmentally friendly option for travelling throughout the country. Follow this link to add your name to support bill e-3723 and hold the Government of Canada to its commitment to increase use of public transit and reduce CO2 emissions to fight climate change!
